What is Schorle?

The German term Schorle refers to various mixed drinks that contain carbonic acid:

- A Fruchtschorle (Frucht = fruit) is a non-alcoholic drink that is made from fruit juice and sparkling water. This is the most common type of Schorle.

- To make a Weinschorle, red or white wine is mixed with sparkling water. The mixed drink can have different names that vary by region, including saure Schorle, Sauergespritzter or Spritzer.

- To make a sweet Weinschorle (“süße Weinschorle”), instead of the sparkling water, cola or lemon-flavoured soda like Sprite is used.

While these variations are widely known in German-speaking countries, most of them are unheard of in other countries.

Why drink Schorle?

Schorle creates the perfect mixture of sweet and refreshing. The fruit sugar provides energy without being too high in calories. The drink is especially suited to be consumed during a meal since the flavour doesn’t dominate too much thanks to the dilution.

How is fruit Schorle produced?

Today, a lot of Schorle is produced commercially. Usually, the fruit juice content lies between 50 and 60 percent. Besides fruit juice and mineral water, sugar and additives are often used. However, there are also some premium producers that focus on natural high-quality ingredients.

Which types of fruit Schorle drinks are there?

Today, there are almost as many fruit Schorle drinks on the market as there are fruits. Apfelschorle, which is made with apple juice, is regarded as the most popular and can be made both with clear and naturally cloudy apple juice. Other popular Schorle drinks include Orangenschorle (with orange juice), Johannisschorle (with currant juice), Mangoschorle (with mango juice), Grapefruitschorle (with grapefruit juice) and Kirschschorle (with cherry juice).

Schorle at Gustero

Our selection of Schorle drinks is still small. At Gustero, it’s our highest priority to offer you premium quality products without any compromises. If you’re looking for a refreshing Schorle drink, we recommend Omi’s Apfelstrudel, a Schorle with apple strudel aromas. What makes this drink so special: The aroma is not created by artificial additives but by processing hand-picked apples and blending them with cinnamon. It’s perfect on ice, as a hot drink or mixed with Prosecco. Order before 17.00 to receive your drinks on the next weekday!
