Finlandia Vodka

The History

Finlandia Vodka is produced in a distillery that was opened in 1888. Even back then, this distillery was used to produce vodka until the Finnish prohibition in 1920. After the prohibition was lifted, the distillery was state-owned for many years. In 1970, the government enterprise Alko finally released Finlandia Vodka.

It only took one year until the vodka made it to the US as the first Scandinavian vodka. It was also the first imported vodka in the “luxury” category.

In 2000, the American company Brown-Forman started acquiring Finlandia Vodka. Since 2004, Brown-Forman owns 100% of the brand.

The Production

Finlandia produces its vodka from six-row barley which is distilled into a neutral spirit using a continuous multi-pressure distillation system. After the distillation in the tranquil village Koskenkorva, the spirit is brought to a plant in Rajamäki where it is blended with pure glacier water.

The usage of pure glacier water results in a vodka that impresses with high natural purity. In its aroma, Finlandia is wonderfully clear, elegant and smooth.
