The relatively young winery was only founded in 1991 by Emil and Sonnette den Dulk. Until then, they lived in Johannisburg and preferred to move to the Cape Province to pursue the dream of their own viticulture.
They quickly found a piece of land on the hill which they themselves call a piece of heaven. De Toren is located in the western part of Stellenbosch and is known on the one hand for its excellent red wines and on the other hand for the unique landscape.
