The history of the Drambuie brand dates back to 1746. Prince Charles Edwart III Stuart gained fame through an invasion of Britain but had to surrender and withdraw at the Battle of Culloden. When he escaped through the Highlands of Scotland, he was supported by John MacKinnon, whom he then passed on as a thank you the recipe of the royal favorite liqueur.
In 1873, the recipe was sent to John Ross, who had the name protected and began commercial bottling a little later.
